Christian Charity Service (ChSCh) was created in 1997 in order to deal with urgent social problems. That same year we got involved in helping the victims of the Millennium Flood in southern and western Poland. We also helped victims of floods in 2001, 2009 and 2010: we supplied them with water, food and clothing, and we dried their houses.

We were also involved abroad aiding the people affected by floods in Ukraine (1998), Belarus (1998) and the Czech Republic (2202), the tsunami in Sri Lanka and the civill war in Kosovo. We organized summer camps for children who were affected by Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion.

In 2001 we received financial aid from the government for the first time. The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy gave a grant to prevent homelessness and help thealready homeless in Elbląg. In 2004 we were given the status of a public benefit organization. Since then people who wish to support our cause can donate 1% of their income tax. In 2010 our project in Rwanda received financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Because of that, we built 240 handicap ramps. In 2011 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave us two more grants to help people in Rwanda. It allowed us to build 36 toilets (some adapted for the handicapped) in schools; we organized hygiene courses for teachers and instructed them on working with blind and visually impaired children. It is through these actions that we are implementingour program of increasing the access of handicapped children to education. In 2011 we were also given two grants by the European Union from the European Social Fund to promote healthy lifestyle among the unemployed.

Our organization is constantly developing even though the driving force behind most of our activities are volunteers working in the ChSCh branches all over the country. The aid we provided in 2010 was calculated at 6.5 million PLN – an increase from the 4 million PLN we spent in 2009. As a result, we helped 49 thousand people dealing with poverty, illness, unemployment and other difficulties. Thanks to our projects we are close to the human needs.
